Spaulding Institute (above) aka Spaulding Female College was built by the Methodists in 1901. The building had a long and interesting history before it was demolished by the City of Muskogee in 1965. More information is available in Muskogee Public Library's Local History & Genealogy Department.
The Local History & Genealogy Department has one of the largest genealogical collections in Northeastern Oklahoma. The friendly and knowledgeable staff is experienced in all areas of research including Native American and Freedman research. The department has the Dawes Rolls, enrollment cards, applications and other rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes as well as local newspapers, and court records. Visit their website for databases you can search from home using your MPL library card
MPL is an affiliate of Family Search making it possible for you to view digital images not otherwise available on your personal computer. There are also other databases available only on computers in the department.
