Muskogee County, Oklahoma, "First Families"

The Muskogee County Genealogical Society honors the memory of our early Muskogee County pioneers with a special certificate issued to their descendants.

Our Goals
  • Honor those with Muskogee County roots
  • Encourage genealogical and historical research
  • Provide valuable resources for fellow researchers

Certificate Eligibility
Descendants of early residents in what is now Muskogee County may qualify for one of the following certificates:

  1. Territorial – Ancestors who resided in Muskogee County on or before Oklahoma’s statehood date (November 16, 1907).
  2. Early Family – Ancestors who lived in Muskogee County any time from November 17, 1907, to December 31, 1920.

Forms to Complete

The application packet is available in the Family History and Genealogy Department of the Muskogee Public Library.

  1. The top portion of the Release Form (be sure to sign it)
  2. The First Families History Form(s)

Mail your completed forms (using sufficient postage), along with COPIES of the required documentation. Do NOT send any original documents to:

Upon approval, recipients receive a commemorative certificate celebrating their ancestors’ role in Muskogee County history.
